In 2017 IRTS is proud to announce the 3rd generation of its panel PCs series, the A4R MK3, making it the most comprehensive and accomplished of its kind worldwide.
Based on 6 screen sizes and 2 Intel processors of the 6th generation – i3 & i7 – the A4R MK3 panel PC range features outstanding configured COTS products defined as SKUs - Stock Keeping Units -. In a context of a dual approach, these SKUs has been qualified at 2 levels of ruggedization according to the generic requirements of Military and Industry worldwide markets. In the military field, A4R ranges have been declined in 3 domains to meet the specific Navy, Army and Airborne international standards.
IRTS is a build to order company. A4R production scheme responds either to one shot customers’ orders or to customer long-term programs. In that case the product’s life cycle is managed by IRTS who is able to propose contract-management services to manufacture and repair the products over a long-period of time – over 12/15 years.
A4R FOR NAVY
The following A4R references have been tested and approved to sustain naval operational applications.
A4R SK1 is particularly suitable to submarine and surface ships - below desk - environments.
With high readability screen and shock vibration ruggedization up to ultra-rugged level, A4R SK2 and SK3 are dedicated to surface ship - top side - and speed boat implementations.
Depending on customers’ system architecture, A4R can be split into display and computer. Please refer to “A4RD for Navy” and “A4RK” sections.
Please note that A4R has been developed in a range of ultra-rugged real time analog or digital smart video displays, A4RV with overlay capabilities - multi-function display, real time sight -. Please refer to “A4RV” and “A4RVN” sections.

A4R FOR ARMY
The following A4R references have been tested and approved to sustain ground operational applications.
A4R SK1 is particularly suitable to modern tracked tanks and wheeled vehicles environments.
With high readability screen and shock vibration ruggedization up to ultra-rugged level, A4R SK2 and SK3 are dedicated to artillery systems and old-generation tracked tanks implementations.

A4R FOR AIRBORNE
The following A4R references have been tested and approved to sustain airborne operational applications.
A4R SK1 is particularly suitable to fixed wing aircrafts with limited vibration environments.
With high readability screen and shock vibration ruggedization up to ultra-rugged level, A4R SK2 and SK3 are dedicated to helicopters and others aircrafts implementations.

A4R FOR INDUSTRY
The following A4R references have been tested and approved to sustain various industry applications in Oil & Gas, Offshore, Mining and Maritime.
With high readability screen, shock vibration ruggedization, IP68/NEMA 6P and ATEX capabilities, A4R SK1 is perfectly adapted to the most demanding industrial implementations.

SCREEN SIZE & READABILITY, RESOLUTION, LUMINANCE AND NVIS
With resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 WUXGA, the 6 A4R LCD panels benefit from the widest viewing angles - up to 85° with IPSTM technology paired with a constant contrast ratio – high contrast ratios and levels of brightness over 600 cd/m².
Higher luminance levels up to 1000 cd/m² are available whenever the IPS technology is not requested.
A4R Panels intended for high luminosity indoor or outdoor use, implement front glass bonding technology on the LCD panel, which drastically improves screen readability. To achieve sun-readability on 10” & 12” models exposed to solar radiation, it is advised to operate A4R SK3 versions, which integrate optimized thermal dissipation characteristics.
IRTS’ advice to reach high screen readability
Selecting a standard LCD panel is an efficient design-to-cost strategy that implements 600/700 cd/m² IPSTM and bonding technologies. It enables high readability in the brightest environments, which matches 90% of operational uses.
It is however possible to increase a panel’s luminance if the LED backlight is enhanced for XGA and WXGA A4R. For other resolutions, on customer’s request, IRTS is able to offer such a service or even to develop a high brightness backlight that will meet your specific needs.
Custom designs: other screen sizes
Other screen sizes can be proposed to meet customers' requirements: at the end of 2016 a 13"3 Full HD version was designed and manufactured.

IRTS is capable to offer night-vision MIL 3009 compliant solutions for its A4R panels range.
CPU, OPERATING SYSTEM & BITE
A4R Mark 3 motherboard’s architecture is COM Express Type 6 based, which enables to mount last generation processors with extended life duration.
Our panels are therefore equipped with Intel 6th generation processors that allow the best performance / consumption ratios which are key features when it comes to extreme conditions of use.
Description of A4R standard board computer is as follow :
A mini PCIe extension slot allows our customers to use a card of their selection. The motherboard also integrates a custom extension slot for an IRTS’ optional custom PCI Express card which allows IRTS via light custom designs, to adjust closer to customers’ requirements - for example: Ethernet 10Base2, switch Ethernet, synchronous serial line -.
A4R series runs either Windows® 7 Embedded 64 bits – and soon Windows® 10 Embedded - or LINUX® Xubuntu 16.04LTS.
IRTS’ QT 5.0 based multi-platform library is available to our customers, which enable them to use monitoring data that can be easily integrated into their applications software.
PBIT & CBIT tests available through this library allow triggering an alarm if the system defaults; faults coverage rate is therefore high.
Our Unit Management System – UMS – performs IBIT tests, confirms faults and refines diagnoses.
DATA STORAGE, TRANSPORT, ERASURE, & DESTRUCTION
- SSD’s quick erase and secure erase technologies - done at hardware and not O/S level. Though costly, they are efficient to delete data and more specifically secure erase that comply with military standards - to guarantee highly sensitive data deletion.

MMI, TOUCHSCREEN & FRONT BUTTONS
Every device in the A4R series is equipped with touch-sensitive glass, control panel and optional function buttons.
Control panel master basic functions such as on/off, brightness control, black out, supervision lightning.
IRTS offers two touch-sensitive screen options according to customer’s needs in terms of single or multi-touch technology:
- Single touch: IRTS’ standard.
- A4R implements glass to glass technology that offers many advantages such as water resistance, scratch resistance, reliability, use of gloves.
- Multi-touch: IRTS’ optional.
- For multi-touch requirements, IRTS proposes capacitive technology which can be operated with gloves.
As option, two function panel buttons technologies are available depending on cost and usage considerations.
- Dome switch keyboard technology with backlighting enables to integrate up to 3 additional keyboards on the bezel around the screen – left, right and up positions.
- Microswitch technology is more ergonomic and allows integrating two keyboards on the bezel’s left and right sides.

CONNECTORS SELECTION & POSITION, SPECIFIC POSITIONING
Military market – Army, Air Force, Navy
A4R military panel PCs’ standard connectors are MIL 38999.
Standard input/output is distributed on 3 connectors of which one is size 11 and two are size 13.
Standard position of these 3 connectors is Upside. Optional position can be Left-side.
Considering that the A4R technology makes it possible to rotate the rear frame of 180°, 3 connectors position can be found Downside and Right-side.
Customers have to indicate their requested positioning connectors as L, D, R whenever the standard U position is not suitable.
IRTS can easily customize both quantity and position, pin-out of the MIL 38999 connectors according to customers’ needs.
Customization is also available for the types of connectors mounted on the device, such as FISCHER ULTIMATE, BERNIER or Glenair© MIGHTY MOUSE.

Industrial market – Oil & Gas, Mining, Nuclear, Off Shore
A4R industrial panel PCs’ standard connectors are FISCHER CORE series.
Standard input/output is distributed on 3 connectors of which one is size 103 and 2 are size 105.
A4R is equipped with a 18/36 VDC power supply as standard. On the military market it complies with MIL-STD-1275E standard.
Any A4R panel PC can be equipped with a 10mn battery life internal LIPO battery. On the military market this battery is necessary to fulfill MIL-STD-704 and MIL-STD-1275B compliance requirements.
The following view shows the battery location. Please note that the battery is field replaceable.
IRTS can offer on demand an external AC/DC 115/230 V power supply unit which is MIL-STD and DO160 compliant.
A4R standard color is black.
The type of paint is liquid base that is qualified to resist lasting contact with chemical fluids and NBC environment decontamination.
On customer request, other colors than black standard can be used. The requester just has to communicate the exact reference or supply the paint in sufficient quantity.

Rear mounting uses four VESA 200 M8-type screws.

WARRANTY & REPAIR / AFTER-SALES SERVICE
IRTS’ products original warranty is two years. 1 to 3-year extension of coverage can be subscribed for a maximum of 5 year-coverage. It must be subscribed before the end of the original warranty period.
Warranty applies as soon as the product is delivered.
Terms of the warranty are as follows:
- IRTS’ after-sales service supplies an RMA number – firstname.lastname@example.org
- Shipping to IRTS factory at customer’s expense
- Repair or replacement within 8 weeks of receipt
- Re-shipping to customer at IRTS’ expense
Out-of-warranty repairs can be subject to an MRO scheme – maintain, repair & operations – that can span over 15-year periods after the date of the first equipment delivery.

A4R LIFE CYCLE MANAGEMENT - FFF STRATEGY
A4R rugged panel PCs series has been launched since 2008. The 2nd generation - A4R MK2 - was introduced in 2011, followed by the 3rd generation – A4R MK3 –3rd quarter of 2016.
As part of FFF - Fit Form & Function – strategy, a new generation of A4R products is introduced every 4 to 5 years using MARK - MK - references to ease the obsolescence of components and introduce new functionalities.
- A4R MK1’s last buy order – LBO – is ongoing.
- A4R MK2’s LBO is forecasted at the end of 2018.
- A4R MK3’s launch date is 3rd quarter of 2016 and LBO not before 2023.
The main technology upgrade in the MK2 range was the integration in the CPU of the COM Express Type 2 to replace the ETXCOM of the MK1.
The main technology upgrade in the MK3 range is the integration in the CPU of the COM Express Type 6 to replace the COM Express Type 2 of the MK2.
A4R products are smart panels which implement INTEL® Core I series central unit - i3, i5, i7 - and Windows or Linux O/S. COM Express CPU Boards implement I Core processors that feature the best performance ratio - GFLOPS/Watt - and the best durability.
IRTS has identified Stock Keeping Units - SKUs -for the 6 available screen sizes - 10’’, 12’’, 15’’, 12’’ W, 15’’ W and 17’’ HD. These SKUs have been qualified to match two ruggedization levels of our qualification benchmark:
- Level I – Rugged up to 3g RMS (random vibrations)
- Level II – Ultra-Rugged up to 6g RMS (random vibrations)
Though IRTS offers a pre-qualified technology renewable every 5 to 7 years, the customer shall select its own configuration based on the available options:
- Intel® processor (i3, i5, i7) or memory
- Storage technology and size, such as SSD, ease of access during operation, such as SSD hatch for extractable SSD
- CPU architecture including - or not - extension cards for extra input-output data, which, as non-standard equipment could impact the original connectors’ configuration
- Night vision imaging system capacity – NVIS – of the screen
- Buttons on the monitor’s bezel
Once options have been selected - or not - the A4R device can undergo a qualification process that matches customer’s requirements.
Qualification on customer’s specification is chargeable to the customer. Following this qualification process the A4R become a customer’s product.
Contractual agreements shall still be made with IRTS in terms of:
- Delivery planning – schedule of orders or renewed multiannual orders,
- Production expectations - FFF production or production with strictly identical BOM at the component level which entail the customer to finance component obsolescence management and stock process.
- After-sales services - repairs, maintenance and MRO,
- Life cycle management of the customer’s product
